Programmers and Web Developers of all fields rather they are new comers or seasoned professionals use JavaScript in their work at one time or another.
You can use JavaScript to add functions to your site that allows users to interact with the site or to remove functions from the users while on the site.
There is so much that you can do with JavaScript, included form and security validation (Which I strongly encourage people NOT to use JavaScript in this way as people can bypass it).
In the last few years, JavaScript has jumped into a completely new world of its own with a few new powerful tools. JQuery and AJAX

JQuery (Released 2006) is a cross-browser JavaScript library designed to simplify the client- side scripting of HTML.

AJAX is a group of interrelated web development methods used on the client-side to create interactive web applications. With Ajax, web applications can send data to, and retrieve data from, a server asynchronously (in the background) without interfering with the display and behavior of the existing page. Data is usually retrieved using the XMLHttpRequest object. Despite the name, the use of XML is not needed (JSON is often used instead), and the requests need not be asynchronous.
